Summary
What does this car say about you?
The standard Primera is a bit dull but this version has loads of kit, is sporty but not flashy, and excellent value for money. It stands apart from the usual hatches.
What do your friends / family / neighbours think of the car?
Everyone loved the unusual looks and were amazed by the amount of kit: leather, 17" wheels, 6 speed gearbox, and on and on...
Would you buy this car again and why?
Maybe. It is a very good car but it has Achilles' heels: The low speed ride should not be as bad as it is; the diesel economy could be better (it's a compromise to the close ratio 6 speed box) and the seats could do with more support. Buy only a top spec. model as the rest are dull and you get best value.
What are you likely to buy next?
Mitsubishi L200

Buying experience
Type of dealer you bought from?
Independent
Did you buy this car new?
No
What price did you pay?
£3,500
When did you buy the car?
October 2008
Did you get a good deal and why?
The deal (part exchanging an old Passat) was incredible. Substantially lower in price and mileage than Golfs and - surprisingly - Skoda Octavias. It also has far better build quality than Mondeos.
Is there any special reason why you bought this car?
I bought the Nissan as I needed a diesel capable of covering long distances but with good handling; and a little different from the usual Mondeo bunch. And, Nissan's deserved reputation for reliability and value
What was the dealer like?
Very efficient, courteous and listened to what I needed.

Driving it
What's it like to drive?
Although the rear mirrors are small in area and the rear pillars reduce visibility, the forward vision is superb. It's nimble and handles well with bags of grip. But - the low speed ride is simply dreadful. I'm unsure about the central dash; there appears to be no real reason for it.
What's it like to park?
Parking is easy. There is a rear camera but this is more of a gimmick on this size car. Steering is reassuring.

Living with it
Have you had any problems with the car?
Nothing
What's most practical about your car?
The loadspace is astonishing and the interior - despite the reputation - very hard wearing. The quality is much better than the equivalent Mondeo but mpg only average for a diesel (averaging 42 and you'll probably not see much more).
Favourite gadget, option or accessory?
The six speed gearbox is about the best I've used. Close enough to feel sporty, but high-geared enough for reasonable but unremarkable economy. The SatNav is excellent and the central dashboard a nice touch. This top model has more gizzmos than the space shuttle.
