Nissan Primera Saloon 1996-
  • Economy

    Value

    5 out of 5 5.0

Excellent car for the money. Mine was £3200 with 50k on the clock with FSH from a main dealer and it was worth every penny. The best car I've ever had. It's done 81k now and still feels as solid as the day I bought it.

    Costs

    3 out of 5 3.0

Servicing costs from the main dealer are on the high side. Some non-service items are very steep. Try £56 for a glove box lid or £76 for a wiper arm spindle. Fuel consumption is not good around town approx 26mpg, much better on a run approx 38mpg.

    Driving

    5 out of 5 5.0

Excellent road holding on even the twistiest roads. You can turn in and accelerate safely out of bends with total confidence.

    Performance

    5 out of 5 5.0

Excellent. The car pulls very strongly above 2500rpm making overtaking easy. It will also cruise quietly and effortlessly at motorway speeds all day.

    Reliability

    5 out of 5 5.0

Excellent. It's performed faultlessly from the day I had it.

    Image

    4 out of 5 4.0

It hasn't got much street cred, but I think it's a very well styled car. A lot of people describe it as bland, I would say its simplicity and flowing lines give it both an elegant and sporty look. But its a matter of personal taste.

    Comfort

    4 out of 5 4.0

Provides comfortable seating and plenty of space for 5. The driver's seat has several methods of adjustment including excellent adjustable lumbar support. It's a pity Nissan did not repeat this facility on the front passenger seat.

  • Security and Service

    Security

    4 out of 5 4.0

Can't tell, no one has ever tried to break into mine. The stereo would be hard to steal because it's bolted in from behind the dashboard, which you would have to remove to get at it. This also makes it more expensive if you want to fit your own CD player.

    Service

    4 out of 5 4.0

Quality of service is excellent from my local main dealer. The car always comes back faultless and valeted. Only downside is the cost of even the most routine service is higher than say Ford or Vauxhall.

  • Problems and Ownership

I smashed the glovebox lid off with my Krooklock and was astonished to find it was £56 for a replacement. This seems a heck of a price for a square piece of plastic.
