Nissan QX 1995-
  • Economy

    Value

    5 out of 5 5.0

Dirt cheap for a four year old large saloon when I bought it. Still think it's the best car bargain I have ever had in thirty years.

    Costs

    3 out of 5 3.0

Fuel economy not too bad on a long run, but expensive for popping down the shops. Parts are reasonable, but haven't had to buy many in four years

    Driving

Smooth ride, driving improved considerably once cheap tyres it came with were replaced with a set of Avons. Eats up miles on motorways.

    Performance

    4 out of 5 4.0

Not quick from standing start. Laid back, but can pick up her skirts when she gets going. Drop the overdrive (must be unique on an auto) and she really gets a shift on.

    Reliability

Just get in, it starts every time whatever the weather. Only had to replace pads, front disks, 4 bulbs the tyres and the exhaust in four years. Brilliant. Sails through the MOT.

Looks good from front, rear is so-so due to the rear window which dowsn't seem to match the rest of the car. If Nissan had made an estate version, it would have been a winner.

    Comfort

    5 out of 5 5.0

Dirty great leather seats, heated and electric adjustment climate control, electric sunroof and just about everything else, plenty of usable stowage spaces and a huge boot. Tiny ashtray though. Came with Sony radio and CD changer as standard.

  • Security and Service

    Security

    5 out of 5 5.0

Forgotten what the alarm sounds like, it never goes off because no-one would try nicking one. Because it's rare, never had trouble finding it in any car park.

    Service

    4 out of 5 4.0

I have a small independent garage look after it. He says easy to work on, much better than the Omega (which he says are unreliable).

  • Problems and Ownership

    Problems

    Engine

None at all. Love the refined V6 burble on acceleration. Chain driven camshafts, so no worry about snapping cambelts.

    Other

Replacement dash bulbs for climate control not cheap cos they're blue(?). Parts reasonable. Climate control sometimes loses the plot. Never figured out yet why there's a button on alarm fob to turn the interior lights on remotely.
