Opel Manta Coupe 2.0 GT/E FH 2d (1983/A) Owner Review
-
Economy
Value
Good back up in price for a good car. Still good for the money so long as you are prepared to do your own maintenance.
Costs
Fuel economy is around 30mpg, cheap 2nd hand parts & even new parts still available.

On the road
Driving
No PS, RWD loads of fun, great handling. Only standard brakes are poor.
Performance
Old engine beaten by a lot of newer cars, but good torque and easy enough power and good handling to put some cars to shame.

Living with it
Reliability
Engine is almost bullet-proof. Head gaskets and water pump leaks are main issues. Easy to replace however.
Image
A modern classic with that 'different' image. Everyone remembers it.
Comfort
Seats are standard Recaros so comfortable. Handling good, can be noisy at high speeds and long distances.

Security and Service
Security
Not great, best fit an aftermarket kit.
Service
Never used, easy owner servicing.

Problems and Ownership
Problems
Engine
Reliable if a bit heavy. Engines upgrades/replacements relatively straight-forward.
Other
Try to avoid standard sunroof models, bad design leads to roof rot and sill rot. Cars can rust badly.
