Peugeot 106 (1991 - 2003) 1.1 Independence 3d Owner Review

Want to know everything there is to know about this car?

In their own words

If you want a small, reliable, easy to fix, cheap, fun and nippy car that is retro as all hell, then this is the car.

A great first car due to cheap running costs and cheaper to insure than its sister car the Saxo.

Even with the current 1.1L engine in this car it goes like a bat out of hell and give a lot of my friends more modern and more expensive cars a run for their money or even beating them in some cases. It corners like its on rails and handles like a dream.

I did the NC500 in it and also drive on UKs most technical and dangerous road and it performed perfectly. This car doesn't miss a beat even with its low torque. I am pretty sure it can handle almost anything.

It managed to convert me from a Lada hardliner to a Peugeot lover in a few days of ownership. Everyone I know who has owned one or had one speaks its praises like it was a god. Peak motoring. Goes hard on both the road and the track and looks fly while doing it. 100/10 car.

How reliable do you find the car?

All the problems I have had with this car have been age related, its a 20+ year old car after all so was expected.

Since owner ship I have replaced the rear shocks and the rear axle (buying a refurb one was cheap and I did it on the driveway so not massively hard). Axles on these cars are known to go around the 90k/20 year mark so making it to over 100k isn't to bad for my one.

Maintenance wise its had a few head gaskets and rocker gaskets but that's common faults in this car and also cheap and easy to fix, they will also run just fine with these two things broken.

Does the car do everything you expected it to do?

For a car that was meant to be a stop gap cheapo car while I was in Uni it has more than met my expectations considering I am now a 106 enthusiast and in all the clubs as well as modifying it. This is defo a keeper car. Such fun to drive I love it.
