Peugeot 106 (1991 - 2003) 1.5 D Zest3 5d Owner Review

In their own words
Bit old school and agricultural but Peugeot did small diesels decades before they became hip. Bullet proof if maintained and so simple to work on. 5 door very practical and stylish looks despite age. My car has central locking and temp gauge ( only on Zest 3 model ) ,call me old fashioned but good to see how hot your coolant is rather than a warning light that if the bulb fails means you boil your engine potentially! Decent sized boot and 40:60 split rear seats make for a large space for a bike or tip runs. Admittedly a bit slow and you need to plan ahead but great in snow as heavy front end due to 1500 engine and narrow tyres. Got me home when it snowed badly and passed many a rear wheel drive BMW and MERCEDES who were unable to cope with the smallest of gradients. 64 mpg in normal driving without fail and 75+ mpg at a steady 60 mph on a motorway run which is why these are still sought after even today. Not as cheap to tax as Corsa Cdti for example but a sot of modern day 2CV being so simple mechanically. I may be biased having owned two 106 diesels from March 2001 until today and have served me superbly but I'm aware there are better out there in terms of creature comforts eg AC , NCAP ratings etc. I'm 6ft 4 ins and fit in fine and 300 mile trips are ok just.
How reliable do you find the car?
Only ever replaced exhaust, battery, brake linings and that's it. Been uber reliable and so frugal on diesel. Overall extremely reliable and even when things need doing dirt cheap to fix.Does the car do everything you expected it to do?
Bought this 106 as it had power steering unlike my 1999 Zest 2 1.5 which did 100,000 miles between 2001 and 2007. The Zest 3 only had 37,000 miles on it and has been equally reliable though last 2 MOT's have been £350 ish so will be parting company soon.About their car
