Like its co-developed sister cars, the Citroen C1 and Toyota Ago, the Peugeot 107 carries a three-star rating from safety body Euro NCAP. In crash tests it was awarded a score of 68& for adult occupant safety, 73% for child occupant safety and 53% for pedestrian safety.

While knee and leg protection of dummies in frontal impact crash testing was described as good, some risk of chest injury to the driver from the steering wheel and the potential for lower leg and foot injuries were indicated.

Peugeot 107 safety kit includes four airbags as standard, with a passenger airbag deactivation switch.

Side impact and thorax airbags, previously available as an option on some variants, are standard on all versions from July 2013. A driver’s seatbelt reminder is standard and a front passenger reminder also became standard from July 2013.

ABS (standard on all mainstream new cars) comes with electronic brake force distribution and cornering stability control while the rear seats include Isofix child seat anchoring points.

The C1 is a very small car, so don’t expect to carry huge loads in the back of it, but the boot is okay for a few shopping bags. If you need to carry bigger items, then buy an Urban model as the rear seats split and fold for carrying larger items.

The five-door is the obvious choice if you regularly use the rear seats or have children – getting in and out of the back of the three-door model is a struggle.
