Peugeot 107 (2005 - 2014) 1.0 Urban 5d Owner Review

In their own words
My very early, black 5 door I’ve affectionately nick-named ‘Toto’ has been my work horse since mid last year and has certainly been a marvel to own! I have a soft spot for tiny little cars and this has been my favourite with all its quirks and special features, including the deep boot which I can fit 2 weeks worth of shopping for two people in (and your shopping won’t fall over because it’s packed in so well!) All versions come with light power steering, mine has a funny little tachometer on a stalk which I love! The 1L vvti Toyota engine is super efficient, bulletproof and infallible - it cannot be beaten for economy and ease of servicing!
My little Toto has had 8 previous owners before me, most have been young people I’d assume and even so there were only a couple of small scratches on the corners when I bought it - making it clear that this car has been easy for a range of people to park in the past! On to the not so good; I would say that there are a few parts that need looking at before you purchase one of these cars, first of which is the gear box and linkage - after 15 years on the road the bushings in my gear linkage and shift seem to have all crumbled and worn to the point where the gear stick is becoming difficult to locate, so please check the gear stick for slack play in all directions, particularly left and right! Check the rubber boots on the front CV joints, on my car it seems to be a reoccurring issue as it has failed several MOTs for this throughout its life, including in my ownership of just a few months. At the start of the year she started pulling to the left on a long drive and clicking in hard cornering situations (this is a good tell-tale sign of this problem), it cost me a couple of hundred pounds to rent a car while Toto was repaired and the repair would have cost anyone well over £200 to fix. (I had a discount at my regular garage) My offside rear brake pipe needed a small section replacing, thankfully just a small section can be spliced in to make do, however the wheel cylinder snapped when this section was replaced so further repairs were needed!
Bare in mind - parts are very cheap for this car! You can buy a Toyo tyre on the internet for about £40 and have your local garage fit it, rather than buy their budget tyres for the same price!
My silencer recently lost a baffle too and has been rattling the last 4000 miles. It fell off recently making a raspy sound instead, replacement silencers can be bought for about £40 with a discount on euro car parts and fitted with some DIY knowledge. I will be doing this myself in the near future!
Despite all these issues, I feel as though the car deserves to have more good said about it, even my old one has an aux input for playing from your phone, it’s a very fun car to drive - I always feel confident even on windy country roads. At 70mph on the motorway it is fine, everyone complains of noise but I can’t hear the engine and if you’ve owned a small car before it’s the norm to hear the wind rushing past. Don’t go past 4K rpm (sorry if you don’t have a tach) that’s about 75mph, it’s not efficient here.
I regularly get 500-600 miles from a full tank of driving long distances on country roads and motorways, average 60mph and this car could take you to Scotland easily.
In conclusion, with my driving style of being sometimes brash but often calm this car will go for years longer with minimal repairs. (I just feel as though what’s gone wrong is due to age) once these items are repaired you’ll have no issues. £20 tax, sub £500 insurance for most drivers, and £40 of fuel per 500 miles - you can’t go wrong! Definitely get the 5 door if possible, the doors are shorter and thinner so getting in and out in tight spaces is EASY!
This is one of the best cars ever designed - do not pass up the opportunity to own one!
