Peugeot 205 Hatchback 1.1 GL 5d (1987/D) Owner Review

Economy
Value
Can pick up a good 205 for under a grand.
Costs
Because of their age, keeping them on the road can be expensive at times. If the gearbox dies it'll cost you £400+. Does like a million miles to the gallon though :)

Driving
Great fun to drive, very comfortable ride. At times it can feel like you're on a bouncy castle though. Not a sporty ride, but still good fun.
Performance
1.1 is really nippy in 1st and second gear. Can do over 60mph in second. Acceleration is a bit flat over about 45mph, but still capable at overtaking. 70-80 takes like 2 mins though :o

Living with it
Reliability
It's an old car - reliability isn't why you bought it, you bought it as a first car. A good one will be ok for a couple of years, but when it starts playing up ditch it. It's not worth the cost.
Image
There's just something about this car. It's understated cool. Very understated.
Comfort
Soft suspension and soft seats. Possibally the most comfortable car I've been in.

Security and Service
Security
Security? Well people can't put their hands through the bodywork which is about as far as security goes.
Service
Haven't taken it to a proper dealer.
