Peugeot 205 Hatchback 1983
  • Economy

    Value

    4 out of 5 4.0

More expensive than an XR2, but worth every penny more!

    Costs

    3 out of 5 3.0

Fuel consumption isn't great, but general running costs are low (only a hundred quid or so a year for the last 5 MOTs) Insurance was heavy when I was twenty, but now it's not bad.

  • On the road

    Driving

    5 out of 5 5.0

The most fun car I have ever driven. You can not make it roll, however hard you push round corners.

    Performance

    4 out of 5 4.0

0-60 is great. Not great acceleration above 80, but it will cruise happily at well over 100 MPH. On the track of course!!!! :-)

  • Living with it

    Reliability

    4 out of 5 4.0

No major problems, except the obligitary oil leak that comes free with every Peugeot.

    Image

    5 out of 5 5.0

An 80s design classic that still looks the business. 205 GTis generally look 10 times better than XR2s, Nova GTEs, etc. of a similar age.

    Comfort

    4 out of 5 4.0

Bucket seats in the GTi hold you in the perfect driving position. Gear changes can be awkward if someone over 6 foot is in the passenger seat, though.

  • Security and Service

    Security

    1 out of 5 1.0

Very poor. Definately worth the £400 quid for a Thatcham Cat 1 alarm and Immobiliser.

    Service

    3 out of 5 3.0

Reasonable service. Parts were always received quickly.

  • Problems and Ownership

    Problems

    Engine

Apart from the oil leak, not much. It is pretty tired after 100,000 hard miles, though.

    Other

The rear wiper stopped working a few years ago and a few of the dashboard bulbs have recently gone.

    Ownership

Did you buy the car new?

    Used

Would you buy the same model again?

    Yes

Did you buy from the same manufacturer again?

    Yes
