Peugeot 205 Hatchback 1.9 GTi 3d (1989/F) Owner Review

Economy
Value
Lots of performance for the money, but good ones still worth a bit.
Costs
Generally cheap if you know what you're doing DIY-wise. Insurance can be a bit heavy.

On the road
Driving
Best driver's car I've ever driven. Always leaves a smile on the face and provides bags of thrils. Great handling car.
Performance
Lots of acceleration thoughout the rev-range. Wants to be driven fast.

Living with it
Reliability
Always starts first time and most things robust. However, electrics and some weak points sometimes let it down.
Image
A cut above the rest of the 80s hatches, the design still looks good today. High insurance meant most baseball cap knuckle draggers avoided it.
Comfort
Stiffish suspension means bumpy roads will be noticed. Made up with good seats and decent drivers position, means motorway trips are surprisingly comfortable.

Security and Service
Security
Most will be fitted with after-market immobilisers now for insurance reasons. But still easy to break into.
Service
I've never had Peugeot service it due to high costs and their dealers aren't always helpful for parts which are quite pricey.

Problems and Ownership
Problems
Engine
Big oil leak (split hose) resulted in seized engine.
Other
Ball joints needing replacing. Rear beam needing replacing - a common Peugeot problem.
