    Value

    3 out of 5 3.0

Bought my 2001 X reg privately for £8000 with just 15k miles on it. Still had balance of manufacturer's warranty, so saved £1000 on dealer asking prices!

    Costs

    3 out of 5 3.0

Replacing original tyres (Goodyear F1s - £100) is expensive, but there are alternatives that are cheaper. Ok on petrol and got 36mpg on gentle(ish) run on motorway.

    Driving

Good fun round lanes, but heavy steering and soft dampers reduce confidence when cornering.

    Performance

    4 out of 5 4.0

Not as fast as latest hot hatches, but nice and torquey so no need to thrash it to get decent performance.

    Reliability

    4 out of 5 4.0

Front dampers can leak from low mileage and gearbox is notchy especially when cold. Worst gearbox I've known.

    Image

    4 out of 5 4.0

Peugeot GTi image is good, although 206 not as good as previous cars. Looks really nice with SP kit (arches, front grille and rear spoiler), otherwise looks little different to normal 206s.

    Comfort

    4 out of 5 4.0

Smooth and refined. Climate control is nice, but in practice no better than normal A/C.

  • Security and Service

    Security

    4 out of 5 4.0

Deadlocks and alarm... so as good as any standard car.

    Service

    3 out of 5 3.0

Peugeot customer service is rubbish, but dealer seem ok so far. They even fix the car when it goes in for warranty work!

  • Problems and Ownership

    Problems

    Engine

    Other

Front dampers are a common 206 weakness and at 16k miles I noticed slight leaking from them.
