Peugeot 206 (1998 - 2009) 1.4 16V Sport3 3d Owner Review
Want to know everything there is to know about this car?
In their own words
I bought two of these for my lads to learn in and as their first cars. You get 10 bhp less than a MK1 Ford Escort RS2000 and it is two seconds slower to 60 than a MK1 Golf GTi - yet insurance is only £800 a year for a 17 year old.
To put it into context I find these as much fun to drive as my TVR, Saab 9-3 or Alfa Giulietta. French, small, hot hatches like the Peugeot 205 GTi were a revelation back in the day and this little car is definitely in that vein.
In total we've run these cars for 15k miles over 5 years and neither has had any problems. I've changed discs and pads (£120) full exhaust cat back (£90) and fitted Pirelli Cinturato tyres, standard size, and apart from spark plugs, oil and filters they have required nothing.
The shell is hot dipped at the factory so unless punctured there is no rust, but buy with care as people these days don't treat their cars with any respect. Full history, a recent cam belt and water pump change and lowish mileage comes at around £1000 (2020) and as a first car I can't fault them, actually as a forever car I can't fault them.
How reliable do you find the car?
I rebuild old cars for fun and this is easy to maintain, cheap parts and very reliable.Does the car do everything you expected it to do?
It encapsulates the very best of the original hot hatches but adds airbags, reliability, ABS and discs all round.About their car
