Peugeot 206 2.0 HDi GLX (90bhp) 5d (AC) (2002/51) Owner Review

Economy
Value
Lots of equipment - climate control, electric everything, etc. Just waiting for it to stop working or drop off.
Costs
Fuel economy ok, but not even close to book figures (40 mpg) on long motorway journeys with air con off. Not even close to the mid 50s promised when bought.

On the road
Driving
Handles ok. Brakes are dreadful - in emergency stops it pulls violently to the left (brakes are ok according to Peugeot).
Performance
Reasonably quick but for 90bhp in a small car, could be quicker.
-
Living with it
Reliability
Badly put together, then your troubles start when Peugeot's mechanics touch it.
Image
Doesn't look as good with 5 doors. Needs alloys. Buy a 306 or a 307 - much better to drive, look at and safer too.
Comfort
Seats and driving position are awful, even worse than a Saxo and I didn't think that was possble.
-
Security and Service
Security
Alarm goes off occassionally.
Service
Don't do what they have promised.
-
Problems and Ownership
Problems
Engine
Runs hot and cold - fast and quiet one day, then noisy and slow the next.
Other
Bad fit and finish. Have had brakes looked at 3 times, but they say that's how they are meant to be.
