  • 1.2-litre PureTech petrol best for most drivers
  • Plug-in hybrids boast range of up to 40 miles
  • New mild-hybrids offer great claimed fuel economy

How much is it going to cost to run?

Claimed fuel economy varies from around 39mpg, to just over 56mpg for WLTP standards – a reasonable set of figures for the class of car, meaning low fuel bills. Peugeot is an early adopter of WLTP and RDE2 emissions standards, and the 3008’s figures are good for the size and performance of car regardless of petrol, diesel, manual or automatic configuration.

All models of 3008 can be specified with 1.2-litre petrol three cylinder or 1.5-litre diesel four cylinder engines, all are turbocharged. The mild-hybrid boasts improved fuel economy and lower CO2 emissions over the standard version, with Peugeot claiming up to 53mpg and as low as 120g/km.

When it comes to CO2 emissions, the Hybrid model is the best of the bunch. The 13.2kWh battery on the Hybrid4 can drive on electric power alone with a range of 34-40 miles before requiring a recharge, which can take less than two hours when using a more powerful 7kW charge point. Speaking of which, you can check, plan and control when to charge the plug-in hybrid via a smartphone app. The Hybrid achieves a near-identical range of 33-40miles.

Servicing and warranty

Servicing and maintenance costs should prove reasonably affordable while insurance costs shouldn’t prove too pricey, too, with the Peugeot 3008.

Peugeots do not historically have a good record for holding their value as used cars, though the 3008’s bold styling and popular SUV format should mean it depreciates less than other models from the brand, offsetting its higher price when compared with some of its rivals.

Reliability

  • Peugeot has a patchy reliability record
  • New tech may need watching
  • Overall the 3008 feels a solid car

Peugeot has a chequered past when it comes to reliability, with a reputation for patchy quality. New tech like the digital speedometer may have some teething troubles, but Peugeot should have ironed out these problems early on.

Considering the step change in interior design and quality over previous models it is possible that Peugeot has upped its game here, but the company’s reputation implies that the 3008 may have a few reliability niggles. There have been eight recalls since 2017, ranging from possible fuel leaks, the engine overheating, incorrect emission levels and the towbar may need tightening.

The battery for the plug-in hybrids come with a stand-alone eight-year, 100,000 mile warranty.
