Economy
Value
Picked up my 1995 ( N ) XR 1.6i for £800 private sale. It was in fair nick.
Costs
Quite expensive - MOT cost me £300 for new back brake hydraulics (originals were shot) and new cambelt. Bough the car knowing it needed some work though.

On the road
Driving
Very nice to drive, better than a lot of newer cars!
Performance
Goes like a rocket - mine does 0-60 in a little over 9 seconds with just me in the car. Handles beatifully - you can throw it round any corner, never lost control yet. Feel very safe.

Living with it
Reliability
Never ever failed to start with me, ALWAYS starts first time, even when cold. The joys of fuel injection!
Image
Looks the part, It's a shame alloys don't come as standard though. Body coloured trim would have also been nice.
Comfort
Nothing special - drivers side lumbar support, headrests, basic stuff. Taller people beware of lack of head room, leg room is ok in front and back. Comfortable knowing you have an airbag and safety belt pre-tensioners

Security and Service
Security
Keypad immobiliser means you need to tap the right code in before fuel injectors can work, remote central deadlocking with internal motion detections deters would be thiefs.
Service
Don't use Peugeot dealers - they are expensive. Use the local garage like i do.

Problems and Ownership
Problems
Engine
My engine is in good nick - valve timings had to be adjusted a little, and a new set of spark plugs (though all came out clean) and watch for HT leads - if the engine misses, replace these - the 306 combusts fuel on the upstroke and downstroke.
Other
Cluch cable very stiff - but i prefer this to a light clutch as found on modern cars, more control. Use higher rating fuse if installing new stereo, other than that - A SUPERB car! You could do a lot worse than a 306!
