Peugeot 306 Hatchback (1993 - 2001) 1.9 D L 5d Owner Review

In their own words
So this is actually a 2002 / 52 model which doesn't seem to be listed. The late reg attracted me to this car to begin with plus it was very cheap. I was a little disappointed that it was the HDI engine but rather the DW8 which seems to be far less peppy than the XUD it replaced in the Peugeot diesel line up. These are very good cars in all honesty though, they look nice and chug along as they should, the DW8 isn't the one I would go for it you're looking for one, try and find an XUD9T or HDI as they are both better on fuel and are a rocket ship compared this this engine.
I have heard horror stories about rust eating the rear arches unto the seat belt mounts which thankfully mine didn't have, the paint is almost always peeling or peppered with stone chips by this point in their lives so finding a showroom type paint finish is a tall order.
The rear axle is something always to look at on these as like other Peugeot models, they are a weak point that needs replacing in due course, to which mine was. I don't think there is anything truly that terrible with the 306 as a model, there's just enough electronics to keep it feeling modern but not too much to make it unreliable. I was pleasantly surprised. I feel these Peugeot's will be the next in line to get a retro following much like the 205 has.
