For the money i'd put the 306 in a 'newer' class than it's rivals. Insurance is only group 5 -> Why?!? It goes so well considering it's a smelly diesel. Its the best small diesel of its time.

    Costs

    5 out of 5 5.0

Insurance is cheap. Parts are cheap. MPG is excellent. Drive it hard and still return 500 miles for £40.

Handles well, goes well, cheap to run.

    Performance

    5 out of 5 5.0

For what it is it flies. Not so hot off the line but once its mid-range it'll cripple most 'normal' 1.6 petrols and so-so-nearly keep up with the new dub diesels. Bit of fettling will see 140bhp.

    Reliability

    5 out of 5 5.0

Its a diesel and it's a Peugeot. The best non common-rail diesel, capable of massive mileages and the body is galvanized. Is your 94 Astra/Escort rusty sir?

I think they're a good looking car, esp for the money. The later (ph3) front end fits straight on if you wanted to update it a bit.

    Comfort

    4 out of 5 4.0

Can't grumble here either. Good seats in the DT. Rattles but it's typically french. Tourque steer is plentiful though, esp if you fit bigger wheels. Get a non-sunroof model if you're tall.

  • Security and Service

    Security

    3 out of 5 3.0

Not all DTs had keypad immobilisers. More trouble than their worth in my opinion. Just get a decent Clifford or similar and you're laughing.

  • Problems and Ownership

    Problems

    Engine

None. Keep it serviced regulary. It's dead easy to do and keeps everything tickadyboo.

    Other

Brakes seem to shudder on all of them after a while. Just live with it or change the unworn disks every 6-months!

    Yes

Did you buy from the same manufacturer again?
