Peugeot 306 Hatchback 2.0 XSi 3d (1995/N) Owner Review

Economy
Value
Dirt cheap to buy now. Alarm probably broken. Make sure all the electrics work. Engines good, but cooling system prone to problems - thermostat, radiator, hoses, head gasket. Look out for damaged suspension (look for really twisted internal metalwork)
Costs
Very thirsty. Lucky to get 25mpg in town, 28 on motorway. Cheap to fix though. Lots of Peugeot breakers about. Insurance not cheap, not expensive. There are cheaper to run performance cars about.

On the road
Driving
It's ok. Gf has a Saxo VTR which is a hell of a lot more fun. A bit heavy really, good and stable on the motorway. Effortlessly fast - massive torque from the 2ltr engine (big engine, small car).
Performance
As the reviews say - lukewarm. I had a 1.1 205 before this and so thought this was the dog's to begin with. Never inspired me like my little 205 though.

Living with it
Reliability
Never a problem.
Image
Warning. It was cool, but now starting to look old. I want a newer car now.
Comfort
No leather, but great seats. Quiet on the roads. Easy to drive. A bit hard to park (wide turning circle).

Security and Service
Security
Never had a problem (touch wood) ,but the alarm was always going off, because of the internal sensors. You can turn them off which improves things, but you lower the security…
Service
Forget them. Too expensive and all cowboys - go independent.

Problems and Ownership
Problems
Engine
Suspected blown head gasket turned out to be leaky radiator. Thermostat went as well (that happened on the 205 - Peugeot problem?)
Other
Alarm Alarm Alarm!
