Other Peugeot 307 (2001 - 2008) models:

  • Summary

    4 out of 5 4.0

What does this car say about you?

Young, free and single? I was when I got it....

What do your friends / family / neighbours think of the car?

Never received any negative comments about it.

Would you buy this car again and why?

No, as I'm no longer young, free OR single, and the 3-door design is no longer practical.

What are you likely to buy next?

Replaced in 2010 with a Kia Cee'd SW CRDi.

  • Buying experience

    3 out of 5 3.0

Type of dealer you bought from?

    Franchised

Did you buy this car new?

    No

    What price did you pay?

    £10,688

When did you buy the car?

    October 2002

Did you get a good deal and why?

Probably not as good as I could have - was very 'wet-behind-the-ears' at the time, could and should have taken things more slowly.

Is there any special reason why you bought this car?

Good reviews, Peugeots highly spoken of by friends and colleagues.

    What was the dealer like?

Classic hard-sell - though I wasn't savvy enough to realise it at the time.

  • Driving it

    5 out of 5 5.0

    What's it like to drive?

Excellent, responsive engine, 'on-rails' handling. Predates the current generation of 'common-rail' diesels, but still offered very good mpg, 45-50.

    What's it like to park?

As good as anything else - if you can't park, you can't park, whether you're driving a Merc or a Mini.

  • Living with it

    4 out of 5 4.0

Have you had any problems with the car?

Ran it for 8 years and 70k miles, in that time, over and above reasonable wear-and-tear, it required the following: Column switch unit x 2 (Repaired under warranty) Front brake discs twice (first time at under 20k - Peugeot refused to accept any responsibility. Sorry, but there's no way I'm that sore on brakes.) ABS Sensors repeatedly failed. Bulbs expired at a ridiculous rate. Looking back, though, it really didn't do too badly considering.

What's most practical about your car?

Tall styling made for an excellent driving position, great visibility and a surprising amount of space all-round considering its size. I'm over 6' and with the front seat adjusted for me, I could still sit in reasnable comfort in the back.

    Favourite gadget, option or accessory?

Ice-cold air-con in summer, still a relative novelty at the time.
