Peugeot 308 GTi (2015 - 2017) 1.6 THP (270bhp) GTI by Peugeot Sport 5d Owner Review
Want to know everything there is to know about this car?
In their own words
I have 3 minor niggles with the car. 1) Its rear leg room is not the best in class, its OK for older kids and even adults, but for younger kids in car seats I find that the front seat design restricts their leg room. 2) This car is all about being fun to drive, and its great to have a proper manual gearbox with well spaced ratios. But the actual gear change has too long a throw for a sporty car. 3) Only a proper car nerd who can see past the brand will appreciate it. Others will think you've just saved a few £ rather than buying a Golf GTI (which for the record, is slower, thirstier, not as fun to drive, not as well equipped, common etc...)
If you can live with these niggles then the car is great fun plus practical, just as a hot hatch is meant to be. For me, being subtle was a massive selling point, but others may prefer it to shout louder about its capabilities. The firm suspension and skinny tyres lead to a hardish ride, but helped by the excellent seats it is still more comfortable than other hot hatches. A few reviews have criticised the i-cockpit with the small steering wheel. I really like it, the small wheel suits the car's handling and makes other cars feel like vans!
How reliable do you find the car?
I've had a couple of minor niggles with the car but the Peugeot dealer in Derby has been very helpful and comes highly recommended. Especially as I did not buy the car from them.Does the car do everything you expected it to do?
It's got a big boot and makes a reasonable family car. Whilst it can be a bit grabby in 1st and 2nd gear it is fairly easy to drive smoothly around town and doesn't always beg you to drive quickly. Kick the kids out, put your foot down, and it is a different car! Its looks are very subtle, but with 272 HP in a car lighter than most of its competitors it is very quick, has excellent handling, and takes most people by surprise.About their car
