Peugeot 309 1.8 GLXDT 5d (1996/N) Owner Review

Economy
Value
A pleasant car for a cheap price
Costs
Few problems with maintenance. The marks are down because when something simple does go wrong like coolant hose pipe replacement, Peugeot charges become too excessive.

Driving
It's great to drive, even at 150,000 Miles. Power steering provides a fluent, easy and soft ride. It's a car you could drive forever.
Performance
Currently gives 45 mpg around town, and 53 mpg on long journeys. Turbo lacks power in places.

Living with it
Reliability
Since purchasing in 1996, had many coolant problems: heater matrix, coolant pipes and radiator leaks. Other problems: fuel tank leaks, brake/fuel pipe rust under the car. Everything else OK.
Image
Still has plenty of style with colour coded bumpers, red stripe trimmings and tinted windows. I see the GLX being the best looking 309 model.
Comfort
Has comforting strong tweed trim with sport seats at the front. Comfort is enhanced by the excellent ride. Leg room is perfect both front and back, the boot being very spacious for its size.

Security and Service
Security
Only has a standard alarm. Door locks are easy to undo. Although fuel filler cap opens from inside the car.
