Peugeot 309 1.9 GLD 5d (1991/J) Owner Review
-
Economy
Value
Absolute bargin - only paid £300 for it (Feb 2004).
Costs
Cheap as chips to run with 55mpg. I've not spent any money on repairs yet, but it will need the left front wheel bearing changing soon.

On the road
Driving
Heavy but direct steering, heavy clutch. Not much feel to the brakes you have to really stand on the pedal in an emergency.
Performance
Not bad for a diesel and plently good enough in todays traffic!

Living with it
Reliability
Engine is excellent. Nothing has gone wrong with it yet and it always starts first time even after 126k. Some electrics don't work but it is a 13 year old French car, 'nuff said. Front left wheel bearing has started to make a noise and will need changing.
Image
Image doesn't concern this car, only cheap reliable motoring.
Comfort
Comfortable on short journeys, but the seats have sagged a little with age making long trips uncomfortable. The heavy steering can be tiresome around town, but what do you expect for £300!

Security and Service
Security
It looks like a an old man's shoe box, that's all the security it needs! Mine was fitted with an immobiliser at some point in its life, God knows why!
