Peugeot 405 Estate 1.8 GRD Turbo 5d (1991/H) Owner Review
-
Economy
Value
Best value for money in a car that I ever bought.
Costs
Parts are dear.
-
On the road
Driving
A brilliant work horse.
Performance
Best fuel economy that I've ever had. The 406 that I now own is rubbish by comparison.
-
Living with it
Reliability
Always started first go, huge mpg, ally heads tend to warp. Crack even though you look after the water side carefully.
Image
Still looks good and purposeful today.
Comfort
It doubles as a camper. Let the rear seats down..hey-presto the peugeot-hilton.

Security and Service
Security
Central locking fails with age, not particularly rectified by contact cleaning.
Service
Never used a main agent.

Problems and Ownership
Problems
Engine
My head cracked, a common problem with age but other than this no other problems in 280k miles.
Other
Rear axel bushes wear so watch for tilting inward of rear wheels. This means axels on its way out. Look for a collection of break pipes just above rear axel (break compensator) its position means high corrosion.
