Peugeot 405 Estate 1.9 STDT 5d (1993/K) Owner Review

Economy
Value
Not the best price for it's age, but very good for button pushers and those who like comfort. With standard CD autochanger and steering remote, electric everything, gadget people will love this.
Costs
Running costs are ok, good MPG. Bad repair costs, can be high in comparison to ordinary diesels and especially petrol engines.

On the road
Driving
Manageable if you Sunday drive. Corner handling is not so good with most of the weight in the front and high suspension at the rear.
Performance
Has some poke, but corner handling is dire. Had problems often with gearshift from 2nd to 3rd. I really liked the clutch on this model, but it became very stiff after a while.

Living with it
Reliability
Good when it's running, not so good costs when it breaks. It does however run well when over-heated and if the tank dries up.
Image
For an estate of its age, I think it looks superb, but make sure it has the roof rails, or it looks daft. Alloys and color coded mirrors give it finer finishes.
Comfort
This was my most comfortable car. If you like soft armchairs with electric adjustable seats (handy for adjusting whilst driving), this is for you.

Security and Service
Security
With alarm and immobiliser, it seems a good package for its age, but the alarm is so quiet it's not worth having and the immobiliser doesn't always switch off when using the remote for unlocking.
Service
Didn't have a very good look over engine.
