Peugeot 405 Saloon 1.6 GLi Cat 4d (1993/K) Owner Review
-
Economy
Value
Can't beat this - paid £275 for it at auction, then phoned previous owner for radio code and found out it had a new engine.
Costs
As with all auction purchases, repairs put cost up to £430 (CV joints, ball joint, drive shaft bearing).

On the road
Driving
Everyone says the same - first class, and I have to agree.
Performance
Lively and responsive. Doesn't quite take your breath away as the ad used to say, but I can easily live with it.

Living with it
Reliability
So far so good (since July 2001), but very good for DIY servicing (apart from bottom ball joints).
Image
This is still a good looker - especially in dark blue with all the black trim treated with the magic stuff. And the stereo is superb.
Comfort
Armchair comfort, no discomfort after 200 mile trips.
-
Security and Service
Security
No alarm on this model, only immobiliser.
Service
None - do own repairs, but got independent transmission shop to do CV joints at a fraction of dealer price.
