Peugeot 406 Coupe (1997-2003) engines, drive and performance

Four engines were offered, 2.0 is the entry-level unit, which is acceptable, but can be a bit noisy when pushed hard. 2.2 petrol gives a good mix between performance and economy. 3.0V6 is smooth, quick and refined, if a little thirsty. Some buyers may be surprised to find such an attractive car has a diesel option: a 2.2 HDi. It’s punchy, refined and offers useful economy.
Coupes make good tourers but aren’t that well suited to town driving.
