Driver and passenger airbags are standard on all models. A 1997 saloon model scored two stars (out of four) in Euro NCAP tests, a re-test in 2001 gave the revised model three stars (out of five). The effective but occasionally awkward PSA keypad immobiliser system will deter drive-away villains. Strong deadlocks back this up.
Coupe has a surprisingly large boot for a two-seater – it easily accommodates a weekend’s worth of luggage. Seats in the back seat two in snug comfort.
