Peugeot 406 Estate 1.8 L 5d (96) (1998/R) Owner Review
-
Economy
Value
Reasonably priced, nearly reliable and not a major kick in the pocket to buy or run.
Costs
Replacement parts (Peugeot) are expensive - buy pattern parts if you can to keep costs down.
-
On the road
Driving
It is 'alright' and pleasant to drive - comfortable on the motorway but nippy enough in town.
Performance
Good enough for a reasonable estate car with a 1.8 engine. Tows my 1.3 tonne boat without fuss.

Living with it
Reliability
OK I suppose, my 406 has needed a replacement MAP sensor and idle control valve. At £40 and £80 respectively they weren't cheap.
Image
An average family car.
Comfort
Ride quality is good (especially on the motorway) but the drivers seat gives me a 'numb bum' after 2 hours.

Security and Service
Security
It hasn't been stolen yet.
Service
Spares service is to order only and is slow and unreliable. This is my first and last Peugeot.

Problems and Ownership
Problems
Engine
Needed new components for the fuel injection.
Other
Some fuel injection components needed replacing after their failure realised problems with tick over and 'glitches' when accelerating.
