Economy
Value
Very good value for money and better than an a Mondeo.
Costs
Parts and servicing can be expensive especially from main dealers. You need a delicate right foot to keep fuel economy costs down as the engines, apart from the diesel, are thirsty.
-
On the road
Driving
Gearbox can be a bit notchy, power steering very light.
Performance
2.0 16V very good and smooth, turbo even better; very revvy.
-
Living with it
Reliability
Engines are normally very reliable but electrics can play up, especially remote central locking.
Image
Good looking cars especially the Coupe, but taxi image does stick with the 406.
Comfort
Very comfortable, better than a Laguna or a Mondeo, very good legroom in the back for kids and adults.

Security and Service
Service
They tried to replace parts which didn't need replacing. I recommend you take a used 406 to a good independent dealer.
