Peugeot 406 Saloon 1996

Want to know everything there is to know about this car?

  • Economy

    Value

    2 out of 5 2.0

Not built well so not good value for money despite low price for spec.

    Costs

    1 out of 5 1.0

Servicing and parts are ridiculously overpriced.

  • On the road

    Driving

    4 out of 5 4.0

Good for a big car. Steering is almost perfect. Poor gearchange lets down the experience.

    Performance

    4 out of 5 4.0

Very good performance for only 90bhp. Effortless acceleration as long as you don't want to thrash it.

  • Living with it

    Reliability

    1 out of 5 1.0

Arrgh! Critical parts of this car are built so poorly. It fails every MOT on important things like suspension mountings, not very high millage so NOT GOOD.

    Image

    4 out of 5 4.0

Looks good, stylish and understated, just how I like it.

    Comfort

    2 out of 5 2.0

Although I like the driving position, the seats have no back support whatsoever and long jouneys leave you aching.

  • Security and Service

    Security

    1 out of 5 1.0

Broken into once by bending the door and second time by kicking the boot (releases the lock). Very easy to break into.

    Service

    1 out of 5 1.0

Peugeot are another one of these delaers that deny there is a problem even when you show it to them. Why do they do this? Surely being nice to your customers makes them come back for more? Lying does no good!

  • Problems and Ownership

    Problems

    Engine

Never died but there have been 2001 minor problems which all add up :(

    Other

Almost every single item in the car has failed before 60,000 miles (air con, stereo, suspension, brakes, seat mountings, trim, locks, remote, exhaust, etc etc). Very expensive to maintain.

    Ownership

Did you buy the car new?

    New

Would you buy the same model again?

    No

Did you buy from the same manufacturer again?

    No
