Peugeot 406 Saloon (1996 - 2004) 2.0 HDi Rapier (90bhp) 4d (AC) Owner Review
Want to know everything there is to know about this car?
In their own words
If I had any niggle at all, it would be one that most saloons have. Visibility out of the rear window for manoeuvres could be a bit better, although spacial awareness of the cars dimensions come with time, especially if you live in a city and parallel parking ability is essential.
Replacement parts for repairs seem reasonably cheap and easy to find still, despite being 17 years old this year. I have found that some of the glues used on the trim are beginning to lose their adhesion although that is age related. This could be said of most cars this age and can be easily fixed.
My 406 is fun to drive, powerful and economical for it's age. It is very spacious in the cabin and also has a large boot space. Very much the grand tourer. It recently drove a round trip from the south coast of England to The Mull of Kintyre and didn't put a foot wrong in any situation. The comfort level for long journeys is great and the fantastic ride that Peugeot and Citroën are renouned for is definitely not lost with my 406!
I hope to have my 406 for a good few years yet. As long as you keep on top of the servicing I don't see why this car couldn't easily run for another 200,000 miles!
How reliable do you find the car?
No major faults, regularly serviced. Has passed it's mot three years running without any recommendations so far! The HDI engine is incredible!Does the car do everything you expected it to do?
I was initially after a small hatchback but after a test drive in this I decided to give it a go (also influenced by a 405 a friend owns). I'm not sure I could go back to a small car happily now!About their car
