Should you buy a Peugeot e-3008?

The Peugeot e-3008 is one of the best looking electric SUVs around both inside and out. But we’d argue this isn’t enough to make it a great buy. While it is a compelling visual package, it’s not as well-executed as we’d hoped from a fundamental practicality and driving perspective.

The ride quality is poor, which is especially disappointing for a Peugeot given its traditionally comfortable cars. The e-3008 is also not as spacious as we’d have liked for a car that’s designed for families. A high price means that for the e-3008’s positives, it’s a tough choice to recommend in a class filled with excellent rivals like such as the Parkers award-winning Renault Scenic E-Tech and Skoda Enyaq.

The forthcoming longer-range models may redeem it somewhat. But while it’s far from being a bad car, the mild-hybrid 3008 is will a better choice as far as we’re concern, since it’s much cheaper to buy, rides better and still has the same impressive interior.

What we like

The e-3008’s interior is one of the best we’ve seen in recent years. It looks superb and feels like an especially premium product with its upmarket materials. The rakish coupe-like styling is also well on-trend. And if EV doesn’t feel right for you, the choice of mild-hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions is useful to have.

What we don’t like

Most of our grievances with the e-3008 stem from the way it drives. This is a heavy car but this fact hasn’t been disguised and the unsettled ride doesn’t suit UK roads, especially in urban driving where most of these cars are inevitably used. We’re also disappointed by the lack of passenger space in the back, which is galling for a family car.
