What are the running costs?

In 2022 Peugeot dropped both petrol and diesel versions of the e-Rifter. The remaining all-electric models emit 0g/km of CO2 so you won’t have to pay road tax, while company car users will have a very low rate of BIK tax.

The single battery offered isn’t very big. While that’s not great for range, it does mean it’ll cost less to charge and take less time than a larger battery.

It also helps to keep costs down, giving you a much bigger car than you’d normally get for the money. Even so, many families will probably find the MG 5 estate is big enough for their needs, usefully cheaper to buy and blessed with a much longer range. A Skoda Enyaq is another great electric option although like the MG, no seven-seat version is available.

Servicing and warranty

While electric cars are pricier than equivalent petrols and diesels, they’re much cheaper to service as they have simpler mechanicals. Regenerative braking not only tops up your battery as you slow down, it also lightens the load on your brakes further saving you money.

The e-Rifter’s warranty is a standard three years or 60,000 miles for the car itself, with the battery covered by a separate eight year or 100,000 mile warranty. This guarantees the battery will retain at least 70% of its capacity at the end of that period.

Reliability

  • Recall for minor issues on non-EV Rifters
  • Siblings also affected
  • Free fix

Like the Combo Life and Berlingo, the Rifter has received a couple of recall notices. The first related to a handbrake component that could potentially fail, which resulted in 744 cars being subjected to a fix. The second was for 148 diesel-engined models where a rogue plastic component could damage the particulate filter in the exhaust system.

All of the work will be completed free-of-charge, but ensure with a Peugeot dealer whether it’s been undertaken on a used Berlingo you are considering buying. The electric drivetrain of the e-Berlingo should prove more trouble free.
