Should you buy one?

There’s no doubting the e-Rifter is an incredibly practical electric car for families. Regardless of the version you go for, there’s a massive boot and lots of space inside for people, especially given how much it costs.

We suspect some will immediately discount it because it isn’t an SUV, but those people are missing out on something far more useful for the money.

What we like

Space is the main thing here. There’s loads of it for people and their stuff, while getting the rear seats out of the way reveals a space that’s van-like. Unsurprisingly.

Comfort is another e-Rifter strength, making it easy to spend a few hours behind the wheel of. Decent levels of standard equipment also appeals, as does one of the more attractive van-based MPV dashboards.

What we don’t like

Our biggest issue is range, there just isn’t enough of it. The 120-130 miles will be more than enough for most on a day-to-day basis, but long trips will require charging stops. Not ideal for a main family car.

Those getting out of a regular MPV, estate or SUV might find the interior less plush than they’ve become accustomed to, although at least it should be hardwearing.
