Peugeot Rifter MPV GT Line 1.5 BlueHDi 100 5d Owner Review
Want to know everything there is to know about this car?
In their own words
This car had potential, but it has one fundamental flaw. It tries to be something it is not. This car superseded the partner tepee and has failed in almost all area’s, its predecessor did not pretend it is something it’s not, and as a result was excellent.
I will start with its good points, its big inside, very big, the utility side over the vehicle is fantastic, with the seats down it is a lgv and the sliding doors are fantastic if you have kids but I'm afraid thats where the positives end.
Having done nearly 30k in 2 years across the Britain I’ve encountered everything and the car has failed to deliver in ever single aspect unfortunately. The biggest issue is trying to make a van derived car refined, as a result the steering is light and the chassis control is floppy. Don’t get me wrong in a straight line it is relatively comfortable, unfortunately when you reach a bend, all of that ‘refinement’ lends to a very unnerving experience especially in the wet. It wallows and bucks into and out of bends even at modest speed, coupled with the extremely light EPS its pretty much a guess as to how much steering is needed as lean into a bend and the front finally gives you a tiny bit of feedback that the tyres have actually gripped. I recommend and passengers in the rear take some sea sickness tables before getting in.
Then we get to the engine and gearbox, the engine is pathetically powered and the gearbox ratio’s are all wrong, meaning you spend a stupid amount of time in 2nd/3rd below 35mph. Forget pulling out of a junction while rolling in 2nd it won’t happen. And if you dare to have the air con on in summer, please for your own safety do not try getting out in that gap in the traffic, you won’t make it even in first without a huge delay.
If this vehicle went back to its roots, heavier steering, more robust suspension and roll control and a more powerful engine/gearbox. It might, might, just hold a candle to its predecessor, which i also owned and did 40k in.
