The Porsche 911 has yet to be tested by Euro NCAP and probably never will be – at least for this generation of car. Despite this, it should still perform well in an accident with six airbags as standard and a strong crash protection structure.

Porsche’s version of autonomous emergency braking – Porsche Active Safe (PAS) – is offered as an optional extra in conjunction with adaptive cruise control, although, frustratingly, is only available with the PDK automatic gearbox.

Working between 18-130mph it provides an audible warning then automatic braking if the system detects that your car is approaching the vehicle in front too quickly. Blindspot monitoring is also available as an optional extra, as is speed sign recognition. 

How many Isofix car seats can I fit in a Porsche 911 Coupe?

Porsche 911 models with rear seats fitted come as standard with two Isofix points, with the option for a third on the front passenger seat.

Up front there’s plenty of room for two adults thanks to clever overall packaging and seats that are positioned low down in the car. Plenty of adjustment in the steering wheel and seats means that drivers and passengers of all sizes should be able to get comfortable quickly.

In the back, however, it’s a totally different story. Unless those in the front are less than five-foot tall it’s near impossible to get any adults in the back, and even if you do, they will have next to no headroom. Reserve these seats for either very small children or sub five minutes drives down the road.

However, before we get too critical, it’s worth considerting that many of the 911’s rivals – especially when you get up to Turbo and Turbo S spec – do not even offer the option of rear seats.

Storage space in the cabin is tight thanks to a small glovebox and door pockets, plus little in the way of other useful cubbies and trays. However, Porsche must be applauded for its intricate cupholder design that folds out of the dashboard on the passenger side. 

Despite its svelte appearance, the Porsche 911 is actually longer and (much) wider than a Volkswagen Golf hatchback. And while visibility is good for a sports car, it could prove tricky threading the 911 into your average-sized garage. Parking sensors aren’t standard either, nor is a reversing camera, so bear this in mind when speccing your 911.

The Porsche 911 has two ‘boots’. The primary storage space is in the front and holds 145 litres of luggage, enough for a large soft bag and a briefcase. It’s a nice, deep loadbay that, although not particularly wide, accommodates a surprising amount if you’re smart about packaging.

To access the second boot (260 litres), one or both of the rear seats must be folded down. This is a fairly simple task in theory, but some users may find it tricky to contort themselves beyond the folding front seats and into the rear of the car to release the back seats.
