Should you buy one?

If you want to feel involved in the driving experience, the Porsche 911 GT3 and GT3 RS are it. There are quicker cars out there, and many of those are far more refined. But if you want to not just go fast but be immersed in the furore, very little else on the modern motoring market will hit the spot like one of these.

As such, while we can appreciate the physical, save-the-manual interactiveness of the GT3 Touring’s six-speed stick, and understand the desire for relative subtlety deleting the rear wing fulfils, going for anything but the full PDK and in-your-face aerodynamics seems to be slightly missing the point here. But maybe that’s just us, and frankly, if anyone’s handing out keys we don’t intend to be fussy.

Rivals include hot, track-oriented versions of the Audi R8 and Lamborghini Huracan, as well as various track-orientated BMWs – and Ford’s set to have a go with the Mustang GTD in 2024. But for us, nothing hits the spot quite like a 911 GT3, and we’d be seriously tempted to raid another bank to find the extra for the RS version as well.

What we like

Hugely charismatic motorsport-derived engine, super-fast paddle-shifting PDK, and dynamic chops that are quite possibly the best on the planet. The GT3 is not cheap, but it’s still a bargain.

What we don’t like

May be overwhelming for some, at least initially. Loud inside. Figuring out where to put the luggage if you can actually convince a passenger to join you in the GT3 RS.
