How much space is there?

The Cayenne is a big car and you’ll seat four adults perfectly well. A fifth is possible, though legroom is restricted compared with the outer seats thanks to a wide transmission tunnel and centre console.

There will be no complaints from those in the front, with a huge amount of adjustment in the seats. An optional panoramic sunroof lets a bit more light in, creating a further sense of space. Rear passengers get their own ventilation controls and power outlets.

Boot space and storage

The Cayenne’s boot will hold 772 litres with the rear seats up. For comparison, a Range Rover Sport bests it (only just) at 780 litres, but it completely trounces a BMW X5, which only offers 650 litres worth of space. However, it’s worth noting that if you buy a Cayenne plug-in hybrid, boot space decreases by about 140 litres as the battery pack is located beneath the disappointingly high boot floor. This might not sounds like a great deal, but it seriously dents practicality.

Cars with air suspension also get the option of lowering the ride height via a button in the boot. This makes loading heavy objects just that little bit easier. Storage space within the cabin could, perhaps, be more generous, considering the size of the vehicle. But you do have the option of some neat touches, including an air-conditioned cubby hole with a powerful wireless phone charger, ensuring that your phone doesn’t overheat.

Is it easy to park?

The Cayenne is a big, broad vehicle. So while the high-set seating position means you have reasonably good visibility of your surroundings, it’s certainly welcome that parking sensors are fitted as standard.

These can be enhanced with a selection of camera systems, or even an automatic parking option that allows the Cayenne to do most of the hard work for you.

No surprise that the safety kit-laden Cayenne achieved a five-star rating when it was crash-tested by the experts at Euro NCAP way back in 2017. The testing has been made tougher since, but Porsche is no slouch in this area and we have no concerns about this SUV’s safety performance.

You can order adaptive cruise control, traffic sign recognition, a reversing camera, a 360-degree parking camera, a fire extinguisher, night-vision display, lane-change monitor and side airbags in the rear.
