• Summary

What does this car say about you?

Unfortunately the car (and mainly the badge) to most people provides a brief executive summary that I’m a poser with an impossibly small manhood. I’m currently on a quest to buck the trend and drive courteously. It’s also well advised to not bring your Porsche into conversations voluntarily as sometimes it is met with frothing resentment. Either way, if something is great enough you’ll never need to shout about it. On the flipside, the badge to motoring enthusiasts just indicates that I appreciate a truly magnificent driver focused car.

What do your friends / family / neighbours think of the car?

The car is either met with a frosty reception or heart warming admiration. However, I suspect that my relatively young age is a precursor for the bad reactions. In either scenario the approximate amount of ***** I give about what others think is a solid 0.

Would you buy this car again and why?

Most definitely. With the MR layout, great handling and savage acceleration - why go anywhere else?

What are you likely to buy next?

Dacia Sandero. Seems the obvious step forward from the Cayman S.

  • Buying experience

Type of dealer you bought from?

    Independent

Did you buy this car new?

    No

    What price did you pay?

    £26,000

When did you buy the car?

    November 2012

Did you get a good deal and why?

The 08’ Cayman S I bought had done 26,000miles and is in Midnight Blue with PASM, PCM, heated seats and Carrera S 19” rims. I paid an above-market price because of the standard warranty from the dealer and their excellent reputation for selling quality Porsche’s.

Is there any special reason why you bought this car?

Given the long hours working in the City, I figured that I’d invest in making driving a pleasure instead of a chore. No matter how bad work has been on any given day; I know I’ll smile leaving home and returning home. Plus my friends now can’t scab lifts off me anymore given there is only 2 seats in the Cayman S.

    What was the dealer like?

RSJ Sports Cars in Slough were first class. Attentive, informative and a total pleasure to deal with throughout the whole process. Showroom was lovely and I was spoilt for choice. Would recommend them in a heartbeat.

    What's it like to drive?

The Cayman S is a positively orgasmic automotive orgy of great acceleration, epic handling and confidence inducing grip. Burying the accelerator brings up a dose of aural stimulation as the singing flat-6 behind beckons you to keep the pedal to the metal as the revs rise. After 5000rpm the hellishly wailing euphoria delivers an unrelenting torrent of power until the climactic redline at 7200rpm. Unlike 50 Shades of Grey, this car isn’t a load of overhyped ****. This car truly flatters the novice and astounds the experienced in a captivating driving experience.

    What's it like to park?

A doddle. Saying that the Cayman S is slightly wider than I anticipated; not that it’s a problem.

  • Living with it

    4 out of 5 4.0

Have you had any problems with the car?

Nothing gone wrong yet after 3months ownership.

What's most practical about your car?

The 2 boots. Definitely enough room for weekend trip stuff but not much more. It is a coupe though so that’s hardly surprising.

    Favourite gadget, option or accessory?

PASM – in normal mode the suspension is very comfortable and accommodating. In Sport mode the suspension really firms up and adds to the whole experience. If you’re giving the car a real booting then you’ll probably be firming up as well. Heated Seats are awesome too. Girlfriend rates them highly.
