What are the running costs?
If you’re seriously considering a Porsche as your next car and you’re concerned by running costs you need to sit down and re-evaluate what you want. The Macan is a performance SUV and consumes fuel like one. Figures are pretty impressive considering the mass-shifting capability on offer, but if you’re the sort of person who anally measures mpg then it’s probably best to not consider the Macan.
There’s no plug-in hybrid version or diesel, and the electric version is still some way off. This means there are only petrol options.
The 2.0-litre petrol is the cheapest to run, least emitting, and slowest. The mpg figures are close to achievable in everyday conditions, but fast driving will result in more trips to the pumps.
Move up to the 2.9-litre Macan S and the fuel economy reduces a fair chunk. It won’t surprise anyone that the high-performance Macan GTS has the lowest claimed fuel economy figures. We managed less than 20mpg over a 60-mile route with various speed limits with one of these.
- 2.0 Macan 265hp – 228-243g/km, 26.4-28.0mpg
- 2.0 Macan ‘T’ 265hp – 242 – 229g/km – 26.4-28.9mpg
- 2.9 Macan S 380hp – 251-265g/km, 24.1-25.4mpg
- 2.9 Macan GTS 440hp – 255-265g/km, 24.1-25.0mpg
Servicing and warranty
The Macan comes with a three-year/unlimited mile warranty as standard. Porsche recommends service intervals of every two years or every 20,000 miles.
Reliability
- Five recalls for the Macan so far
- Has the usual solid Porsche build
- Shouldn’t be too much to worry about
Porsche is known for building cars that go on for years with no problems, and many of the engine and interior components have been tried and tested in other applications before finding their way into the Macan.
That’s not to say it’s perfect, though. There have been five recalls issued for the Macan. Three were early in its life cycle, but in 2020 there was a fuel pump issue and in 2021 a passenger seat occupancy detection fault.
