How much is it going to cost to run?

Given that the Porsche Panamera is a high-performance range of luxury cars, running costs aren’t going to be supermini-rivalling, but in the real-world they’re not quite as exorbitant as you might fear.

MPG and CO2

Officially, the best in the range is the 4 E-Hybrid with an official claim of 113.0mpg and CO2 emissions of 56g/km. It’s highly unlikely you’re realise such heady levels of fuel efficiency, but with between 15 and 31 miles of electric-only range, it should prove cost-effective to run if you drive predominantly in cities.

Bringing up the rear is the Turbo S: the extra weight of the long-wheelbase’s metalwork produces a claim nudging onto 30mpg with CO2 emissions between 215 and 217g/km of CO2.

If owning the Porsche Panamera with the lowest possible CO2 emissions is your primary goal then the 4 E-Hybrid is your default choice. Because it can be driven for up to 31 miles on electric power alone it’s possible to drive it as a zero-emissions vehicle on shorter runs. Worst of the range is the Turbo Executive: fitted with the larger wheel option, CO2’s officially rated at 217g/km.

Servicing and maintenance

Being a Porsche, servicing and parts such as tyres will inevitably be expensive, so don’t buy one convinced you’ll be able to run it on a shoestring.

Reliability

  • Platform is shared with several prestige cars
  • Porsche reliability not spotless
  • Build quality is near flawless

The Panamera shares its underpinnings with several luxury models including the Audi A8 and 2017 Bentley Continental – so it’s running on tried and tested technology.

Porsches in general do not have an entirely spotless record of historic reliability, and this is a particularly complex car. It will pay to do plenty of research if you were to consider buying a used Panamera several years down the line…
