Renault 5 1.4 Monaco 3d Auto (1987/E) Owner Review
-
Economy
Value
A cheap car to buy, but bodywork is usually rusted on wheel bridges.
Costs
1.4 eats petrol. Well our one did! Parts can be found easily in a scrap yard.
-
On the road
Driving
Sluggish at pulling away due to clutch slip. Won't pull away on climax hills.
Performance
Excellent as only a 3 speed auto. You can get 50 MPH in first gear, but an excellent runner.
-
Living with it
Reliability
Reliable to start up, but can drain battery with engine troubles.
Image
Not very stylish, nor a head turner at all! Popular with boy racers.
Comfort
Lovely, soft, comfy upholstery and seating. A good bass stereo.

Security and Service
Security
Hard bodywork, but doors are weakest panels.
Service
This was not bought from a Renault dealer.
