Renault 5 Campus 5d (1990/H) Owner Review

Economy
Value
Very cheap if you know where to look.
Costs
Well worth £150.

On the road
Driving
Drives like a go-cart and lots of fun. Bit scary on motorways as very light bodywork so gets buffeted by crosswinds.
Performance
Great around town, beats little boy racers off the lights if driven well. Poor acceleration on motorways as it needs a 5 mile run-up.

Living with it
Reliability
Gets from A to B pretty well and haven't had too many problems. Brakes and bulbs needed changing due to age and some squeaks with the steering and gearbox. Nothing major yet.
Image
Great classic styling and well worth being relaunched as per the mini and beetle. Modified versions look great too. Interior is cheap and badly laid out.
Comfort
Seats are pretty uncomfortable after a while and the heaters are rubbish. Takes ages to demist in cold weather and warm up the interior. Good boot space though for the emergency repair kit and the weekly shop.

Security and Service
Security
One lock was dodgy when I bought it and no other features. But then why steal it? They'd be lucky to start it in cold weather!!
Service
Avoided Renault as too pricy, find yourself a friendly mechanic instead

Problems and Ownership

Other
Electronics are little dodgy as rear demister and odometer don't work. Repairs shouldn't be attempted by amateurs.
