Renault 5 GT Turbo 3d (1989/F) Owner Review
-
Economy
Value
Good ones for £1500.
Costs
Heavy on fuel compared to 205 GTi/Golf GTi -25mpg, expensive parts.
-
On the road
Driving
Boost is addictive. Very chuckable. Precise steering, but be careful in wet - not as much traction as Golf or Pugeot GTi.
Performance
Very, very quick up to about 80mph. Not a car for the motorway - lacks top-end pace.
-
Living with it
Reliability
Engine heat causes lots of electrical problems, mechanically ok.
Image
Keep it standard and it's a real 80s classic - avoid boy racer bits!
Comfort
pretty good for an old hot hatch - beaten by Golf & Pug for refinement.
-
Security and Service
Security
Most have got aftermarket systems.
Service
Stupid labour rates, stupid parts prices - go to specialist - 5 alive in hither green good.
