Renault Clio 1.8 16V 3d (1994/L) Owner Review

Economy
Value
High residuals given its age, but nothing touches it for performance.
Costs
Big engine in small place and expensive parts can mean big bills. Get handy with a spanner!

On the road
Driving
The car that moved the game on from the 205 GTi. More predictable on the limit than the Peugeot, but loses none of the intuitive handling traits.
Performance
Learn to rev it. If you want low-down torque, then get a Williams (identical bar minor engine mods using 1.9 diesel parts to extract more low down torque). Pace truly perplexes would-be racers.

Living with it
Reliability
Beware of the dogs. Some people skimp on maintenance, though there are enough enthusiasts to help you/buy a 16V from.
Image
Cult following, though destined to live in shadow of special edition Williams.
Comfort
Harsh ride, but why are you looking at a proper hot hatch if this matters? Markedly different interior to base car. Leather wonderful.

Security and Service
Security
Door locks are cack. Standard alarm/immobiliser OK, but get a Cat 1 for peace of mind.
Service
Expensive, but good parts availability.

Condition almost solely reliant on care of owner. No inherent problems.
