Renault Clio 1.4 16V Alize 5d (2001/Y) Owner Review

Economy
Value
You get a lot for what you pay for: e/ windows, Aircon, sunroof, etc. But you pay for it in servicing!
Costs
Very expensive parts and servicing... My BMW 330ci is often cheaper to maintain!
-
On the road
Driving
A little vague, handling not as sharp as it should be
Performance
Acceleration not too great - you really have to push it to get the power, which only kicks in at about 4,000 rpm - too high for a city car.

Living with it
Reliability
Appaling, I know you've heard it before - but zee coils are driving me crazy. When they do go bad it runs like a 20 year old banger - very embarassing if you have passengers in a car which is meant to drive like new (mine's only done 25,000 miles).
Image
Nice subtle image, a little bit girlie, but it's a nice city car. Mine is on sale now as i've replaced it with a VW Polo TDi - much better city car. You can't beat the Germans for an overall package. The Renault was just too unreliable
Comfort
Very comfortable ride and seats, only outdone by its French sister company, Peugeot.

Security and Service
Security
With the flashing light and all I thought I was getting a full Renault alarm, not so. Although security is much improved over previous French cars.
Service
Service is ludicrously expensive. Avoid dealerships at all costs, use specialists instead - they're better at what they do and charge less. Renault are well known for being very poor at fixing problems.
