Renault Clio 1.9 dTi Alize 5d (2001/Y) Owner Review

Economy
Value
Diesel model, attracts a premium. There are cheaper Clios.
Costs
Does up to 500 miles to a full tank (£35) which is excellent in my book!

Driving
Feels solid, but not particularly exciting. A bit dull, really. Shame, the mark 1 Clio was much better to drive.
Performance
It's a DTi, so I expected better. Performance is about the same as my old 1.4 Mk1 Clio, and that's only when the turbo kicks in. Disappointing. And, the controls feel heavy, especially with that big heavy lump of a diesel engine in the front.

Living with it
Reliability
Had to change the catalytic converter, but that's because some idiot welded it back on to sell the car - dodgy dealer! Otherwise, starts first time and runs well.
Image
Dull, dull, dull. But, doesn't attract attention, I guess that could be a good thing.
Comfort
I like the driving position, controls are well laid out, not too noisy, seats are ok. I was doing 100+ miles a day in it at one point, and it was fine.

Security and Service
Security
Seems OK, the central locking opens if you sit on the keys by mistake, when it's parked on the drive.
Service
Not dealt with the manufacturer.
