Renault Clio Hatchback 1.2 16V Dynamique 3d (2001/51) Owner Review

Economy
Value
Renault offered a good discount, low rate finance and 1yr FREE insurance. Significantly lower cost of ownership than most equivalents.
Costs
18,000 mile service interval doesn't actually save any money, because it costs twice as much when you do have to go. Still saves going to the garage so often. Plastic front wings a good idea, user removable and cheaper than metal parts.

On the road
Driving
Rewarding drive. Very good handling, particularly on twisty roads. Grip is the best of any small car I have driven, especially in the wet.
Performance
Nippy for a 1.2. Will never keep up with the GTi's of this world but, being honest, if you want GTi performance you would never buy a 1.2.

Living with it
Reliability
Typical Renault, reliable car is let down by the dealers. Had a few rattles but nothing major.
Image
Has Alloys, Spoiler and relatively aggressive styling, looks like less of a girly car than it is. Looked great colour coded, or in 172 form.
Comfort
Surprisingly comfortable for a small car. Seat supportive (actually the same bucket seats as 172/182 bar the leather. All controls well placed. Back seat is a little cramped, especially headroom, ideal for kids and adults you don't like very much.

Security and Service
Security
No alarm, but mist joy riders know its a 1.2 and don't bother. RAID (automatically locks the doors when you pull away) is a must , particularly for single females living in busy cities.
Service
Dealers are the biggest let down. Car twice went for simple repairs and came back worse.
