Should you buy a used Renault Clio?
Other small cars of this era have better reliability records than the Mk3 Renault Clio, but it’s hard to argue with the level of choice on offer here. While not all of the engines or trim levels are as desirable as others, there’s a wide swathe in the middle that are well-equipped, well-built and good to drive.
The Mk3 Clio has a fantastic hot hatchback in the form of the Renaultsport Clio 197 and 200, and there’s even a practical small estate – though this sold in such small numbers that you might struggle to find one.
